Why consultants work in River

Built around your client project, not a chat window

  • The whole engagement in one place

Your proposal, SOW, interview notes and client files live in one workspace the AI can read, so each new deliverable builds on everything before it.

  • Every point shows its source

Themes come with how many people raised them and a quote. Numbers come from your files. Anything missing becomes a question for the client.

  • Deliverables, not chat replies

Each tool writes a document, a sheet or a slide outline you can edit and send, instead of an answer you copy out of a chat window.

  • Client material stays private

Files stay in your own workspace unless you share them. Under River’s privacy policy, nothing you upload is used to train AI models.

Questions consultants ask

Common questions

What is the best AI for consultants?

The one that works from your own material and gives you something you can send. ChatGPT and Claude are strong general assistants, Gamma makes slides quickly, and note takers like Granola record your calls. River gives you a tool for each stage of a client project and writes every result into a document in your own workspace, with sources you can check.

How do consultants use AI?

Mostly for research, first drafts and summaries. In a study of 758 Boston Consulting Group consultants, those using AI did 12% more work, 25% faster and at 40% higher quality on tasks suited to it. On a task built from spreadsheets and interview notes, they were 19 points less likely to be right (Harvard Business School). That is why River shows the source behind every point.

Is it safe to use AI with client documents?

Check your client agreement first, since many NDAs limit where client information can go. In River, files you add stay in your own workspace unless you share them. Under River’s privacy policy, nothing you upload trains AI models, and its AI providers are bound by their agreements with River not to train on it either.

Can AI make consulting slides?

It can draft the storyline and the words, but the slides themselves still need you. An ex-McKinsey consultant tested five AI presentation tools in May 2026 and found none made a deck he would send to a client (Slideworks). River gives you the outline, the action titles and a hard review of your own deck instead.

Will my client be able to tell I used AI?

Not from the substance, because River starts from your notes, your interviews and your client’s own files, so the result carries specifics only you have. You review and edit every document before it goes anywhere, and you decide what the client sees. Generic output is what gives AI away, and starting from real material avoids it.

Is River free for consultants?

Yes, you can start free. The Free plan includes some AI usage and needs no credit card, and the templates also download as Word files with no account. When you reach the limit, usage pauses until you upgrade. Paid plans start at $14 a month on the pricing page.
