Tailored Resume and Cover Letter for a Job
Paste your resume and the job posting. Get a resume rewritten for that role and a matching cover letter, built only from your real experience.
River's resume and cover letter writer tailors both documents to one job. Paste your current resume and the posting. River rewrites your summary and bullets around what this employer asks for, turning duties into results using the STAR method in one line each, and reorders your experience so the most relevant work comes first. It writes a cover letter that connects two or three of your achievements to the role's biggest needs. Where a number would strengthen a bullet, it marks the gap instead of guessing.
Most AI resume builders either fill a template from scratch or stuff the posting's keywords into every line, which reads badly to the person who decides. Some invent metrics to make bullets sound impressive, which falls apart the moment an interviewer asks about them. This keeps every fact yours, uses the posting's language where it honestly fits your experience, and explains in chat which requirements you meet, which you partly meet, and how the cover letter addresses the gap.
It is for job seekers applying to roles they really want, people changing careers who need their experience reframed, and freelance resume writers working for clients. Use it once per application, because a resume tailored to one posting does far better than a general version sent everywhere. Your LinkedIn About section should tell the same story as the resume, since recruiters often look at your profile before they invite you to an interview.
What makes a tailored resume work
A recruiter or hiring manager scans a resume quickly for evidence that you can do this job, often requirement by requirement, as a resume screening report does. Tailoring makes that evidence easy to find. Lead your summary with the two or three things the posting cares about most. Put the most relevant role or project where the eye lands first. Rewrite bullets to show what changed because of your work, not what you were responsible for: "cut invoice errors by half by rebuilding the approval checklist" beats "responsible for invoice processing".
Applicant tracking systems matter, but less mysteriously than people fear. Many employers filter applications for the skills and titles in the posting, and the filters can be strict. In a Harvard Business School and Accenture survey, 88% of employers said qualified high-skilled candidates were screened out for not exactly matching the criteria. So use the posting's terms where they truthfully fit. Skip keyword lists and hidden text, because a person reads the resume eventually and stuffing shows. Plain text, standard headings and no tables or columns keep it readable to both.
The cover letter does what the resume cannot: it connects your story to this employer's situation. Skip the opening that repeats the job title. Start with why this role, then give two short examples that match the posting's biggest needs, and close with a confident line about the conversation you would like to have. Keep it under a page. If you are missing a requirement, the letter is the place to address it briefly with related evidence, rather than hoping nobody notices.

Common questions
Will River make up numbers to make my bullets stronger?
No. River uses only the facts in your resume and notes. When a bullet would be stronger with a figure you did not give, such as how many people you trained, it leaves a marked gap telling you what to find. Never put a number on a resume that you cannot explain in an interview.
What is the STAR method?
It stands for situation, task, action and result, a way to describe an achievement so the reader sees what you did and what changed. On a resume River compresses it into one line that leads with a strong verb and ends with the result. Interviews ask for the full story, in questions like those in a behavioral interview question bank, so keep the longer version ready.
Do I need a different resume for every job?
For jobs you really want, yes. The facts stay the same, but the order, summary and emphasis change with what each employer values. A version tailored to one posting is much easier for a recruiter to match to the role. Paste each new posting in chat and River adapts both documents to it.
Will this get past applicant tracking systems?
No tool can promise that, because employers configure these systems differently. What helps is plain formatting, standard headings and the posting's own terms where they truthfully describe your experience. River writes in plain text with standard sections and uses the posting's language honestly, which suits both the software and the person reading after it.
Can I use it if I am changing careers?
Yes. River reframes your past roles around the skills the new field needs, leads with transferable achievements, and uses the cover letter to explain the move in a sentence or two. It also tells you which requirements you do not yet meet, so you can decide whether to address them or apply elsewhere.
