Before and after

What you paste (example)

Want aerospace engineering at West Lafayette. Alternate: agricultural engineering, also West Lafayette. 4-H rocketry for 5 years, 40+ launches, best one hit 2,100 feet. I keep the planting-rate spreadsheets for our family's seed dealership near Kokomo and see what bad rates cost farmers every spring. Physics club president. Applying to the Honors College.

Two of your answers (example)

Major and campus (opening) My best rocket topped out at 2,100 feet over a cornfield outside Kokomo. I want to study aerospace engineering at West Lafayette to find out why it didn't go higher. Alternate major (opening) Agricultural engineering is the field I already work in. Every spring I see what a bad planting rate costs the farmers who buy from us, and [a fix you've tried or imagined] is the kind of problem I'd study.

Every fact comes from the notes. The bracket marks an idea only the student can supply.

Why it works

What are Purdue's supplemental essays for 2026–27?

Purdue asks every first-year applicant two short supplemental answers for 2026–27, each 250 words or fewer: how opportunities at Purdue support your interests, and why you chose your major and campus. Choose an alternate major and you answer a third question of the same length. Honors College applicants add four more answers of 200 words or fewer. Every question is quoted above from Purdue's application guide, alongside the Common App essay you already write.

River's Purdue supplement writer drafts every answer you need from what you paste. It reads your intended major and campus, West Lafayette or Indianapolis, from your notes, and keeps each answer near its limit without going over. Because the answers are short, each one gets a single story and one or two Purdue details from Purdue's own pages. The four Honors answers each use a different experience, and anything missing becomes a bracket for you to fill in.

Purdue's first-year deadlines put Early Action on November 1. That date also covers merit scholarships, the Honors College and priority review for engineering, computer science, nursing and other competitive majors. Regular decision closes January 15, and Purdue warns that admission is much more competitive for later applicants. Early Action decisions arrive January 15, and regular decisions by March 31. Applying to several colleges? The supplemental essay writer plans your whole list, and the essay shortener trims any answer that runs over its limit.

  • Exact word counts, brackets for missing details, and your November 1 and January 15 dates

How it works

From your notes to every Purdue answer

  1. Paste your notes

Add your intended major and campus, activities, a résumé or your Common App essay. Rough notes are fine.

  2. Pick the answers

Write both required answers, add the alternate major or Honors College questions, or choose everything.

  3. Get your drafts

Each answer sits under its question with an exact word count and brackets wherever a detail is missing.

  4. Finish by November

Fill the brackets and grade the set in time for Early Action, scholarships and Honors review.

How to write the Purdue answers yourself

Treat the two required answers as a pair with different jobs. The opportunities question covers life at Purdue both in and out of class, such as a design team, a research program, a club or a learning community. The major and campus question asks why this field and why West Lafayette or Indianapolis. Give each answer its own story, so one shows how you like to learn and the other shows why the major fits.

Specific beats impressive in 250 words. Name one or two things you found on Purdue's own pages and say what you would do there, not just that they exist. For the major, start with a moment when you first did the work of the field, even badly. For the campus, give a reason tied to your plans. If you add an alternate major, be honest about it, since Purdue asks you to choose one only if you are truly interested.

Honors applicants should map all four answers before drafting any of them. The prompts ask for an experience that connected two subjects, a topic you explored because you cared, a place you want to visit and a leadership moment. Give each its own story and keep every answer under 200 words. Then read the full set together and cut any story that repeats. Submit by November 1 if you want Honors and merit scholarship consideration. Also applying to UVA? See UVA's 2026–27 prompts.

Questions applicants ask

Common questions

How many supplemental essays does Purdue require?

Two short answers of 250 words or fewer for 2026–27: one on how opportunities at Purdue support your interests, and one on your major and campus. If you choose an alternate major, you answer a third question. Honors College applicants answer four more, 200 words or fewer each. All of them appear in Purdue's application guide.

What are the Purdue Honors College essay prompts?

There are four, each 200 words or fewer. They ask about an experience that connected more than one subject, a time you explored a topic you are passionate about, a destination you would like to visit and how you would engage with its culture, and a leadership experience. Submit by the November 1 Early Action deadline to be considered.

Should I write about West Lafayette or Indianapolis?

Write about the campus you select as your primary location on the application, since the question asks why you want to study there. Purdue notes that not every major is offered at both locations, so check your major first. A good answer gives one concrete reason the campus fits your plans, not general praise for the city.

When are Purdue's 2026–27 deadlines?

Early Action is due November 1 and regular decision January 15, according to Purdue's first-year deadlines. November 1 is also the deadline for merit scholarship and Honors College consideration, and the priority deadline for competitive majors such as engineering, computer science and nursing. Early Action decisions come January 15, regular decisions by March 31.

Does Purdue require SAT or ACT scores?

Purdue expects them. Its application guide says applicants should have SAT, ACT or CLT scores, and allows exceptions in rare cases where an applicant could not take a test. In 2026, 90% of applicants sent a score and 98.3% of admitted students provided one. Scores must be from the past five years, and Purdue accepts your best section scores across test dates.

Is the Purdue supplement writer free?

It is free to start. River's Free plan asks for no credit card and includes a set amount of AI usage each month. Your Purdue answers live in your own workspace, so you can grade them, add the Honors answers later and keep older drafts. When you reach the monthly limit, it refreshes, or you can upgrade from the pricing page.
