Map the literature on your question

The key papers on your question, read and compared.

Full texts, one evidence table, every claim cited.

How it works.

River searches where your field publishes, reads the papers in full through your library, compares them in one evidence table and writes a synthesis that cites every claim.

  1. Ask your research question

One sentence is enough, plus any papers or Zotero collection you want to start from.

  2. River searches and screens

Searches with synonyms, follows references and citing papers, and logs a reason for every exclusion.

  3. A table and a synthesis

Where studies agree, where they don’t and why, how strong the methods are, and the gaps.

What you get.

  • An Evidence table Sheet with design, sample, finding, effect size and DOI per paper
  • A synthesis Doc with every claim cited to its row in the table
  • The PDFs in a Drive folder, references in Zotero or a .bib file, and a screening log

Start in three steps.

  1. River’s app icon

    Get River

Download the app for your computer.

  2. River’s first question, “What’s your role?”, with Researcher chosen

    Sign up as a researcher

When River asks your role, choose Researcher.

  3. Start “Map the literature on your question”

Press + in your Dock, open Playbooks, and press Start. River reads your drafts in Drive, then asks your question and the scope.

A few things to know.

Are the papers and citations real?

Every paper is opened and every DOI checked. Preprints and retracted papers are flagged, and the synthesis says where the evidence is thin.

Can I use the screening log in my methods?

That’s what it’s for: found, screened and included, with a reason for every paper left out.

What does it cost?

It uses your plan’s AI credit, like everything else in River. It reads full texts through the library access you already have, or open copies.
