River MCP

Give your assistant a workspace.

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any AI assistant to River.

Your assistant can then work in your documents, sheets, and files, and hand big jobs to River’s AI. Everything it makes stays in your River.

An example

How it works.

Your assistant connects to River, and River gives it a place to work.

  1. Your assistant

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any assistant you already use.

  2. River MCP

The connection. MCP is the open standard assistants use to work with other apps.

  3. Your River

Your documents, sheets, decks, files, email, and calendar, plus River’s AI.

  • Quick changes, right away.

Your assistant adds a row, renames a file, or schedules a meeting with River’s own tools.

  • Big jobs, handed off.

Decks, research, and analysis go to River’s AI, which keeps working while your assistant checks in.

What you can ask.

Say it the way you would to a person. Here’s what happens.

  • Set up River for me.

Your assistant gets you signed up, shows you the plans, and links Gmail, Slack, and more once you approve.

  • Turn my notes into a board deck.

River’s AI builds the deck in River from your notes and numbers.

  • What changed in our pipeline this week?

Your assistant reads and searches your sheets, documents, and synced email.

  • Put these contracts in River.

Files from your computer land in River, ready to read, search, and share.

  • Add the demo to my calendar on Friday.

Small edits like this take a second.

  • Export the update as a PDF.

Any document, sheet, or deck comes back as PDF, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.

Why connect River?

Your assistant is great at answers. River gives it somewhere to do the work.

Your assistant alone

  • Answers stay in the chat.
  • You move the results into your apps.
  • Your work is spread across tools.

Your assistant with River

  • It writes real documents, sheets, and decks.
  • It sees your files, email, calendar, and apps in one place.
  • River’s AI takes on big jobs while you do other things.
  • You and your team can open and edit everything.

Set up in a minute.

No account needed to start. Your assistant does most of it.

  1. 1Copy the instructions.

One click copies a short note for your assistant.

  2. 2Paste them into your assistant.

It adds River, or shows you where River’s address goes in its settings.

  3. 3Enter the code River emails you.

That signs you in. New to River? It makes your account.

Set up River for me. River is my AI workspace, and it has an MCP server.

1. Add River's MCP server, named "river". It's a remote (HTTP) MCP server at: https://api.meetriver.com/mcp
If you can't add it yourself, tell me where it goes in your settings.
2. Connect to it. River opens a sign-in page where I enter my email and the code River emails me.
3. Call get_workspace and follow River's setup guide.

You stay in charge.

Your assistant does the work. The decisions that matter stay with you.

  • You sign in.

River emails you a code for each assistant. Nothing connects without it.

  • You pay and connect.

Payments and account connections happen on River’s own pages, by you.

  • It sends what you ask.

Your assistant is told to send, share, or buy only what you asked for.

  • You can disconnect.

Every code email has a link to remove an assistant’s access.

A few things to know.

What is MCP?

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard AI assistants use to work with other apps. River’s MCP gives your assistant River’s tools, once you sign in.

What is River?

River is the AI workspace: documents, sheets, presentations, files, email, and calendar, with River’s AI to do the work. Use it on the web, or as an app for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Do I need a River account first?

No. Signing in with your email makes your account. River emails you a code to confirm it’s you.

Which assistants work with River?

Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, Gemini CLI, and any other assistant that can add an MCP server by its address.

What will my assistant ask me to do?

Only the steps that need you: signing in, paying for a plan, and approving connections like Gmail. It brings each one to you with a link.

What does it cost?

The same as River. Work your assistant asks for uses your plan’s AI allowance, and your assistant can send you a link to pay.

Is my work private?

Yes. Your work is encrypted in transit and at rest, and River never uses it to train AI. Your assistant sees what it reads in River, so its own app’s privacy terms cover that.
