Listing Consistency Check
| Directory | Address correct? | Hours correct? | Issue |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Canonical | Canonical | None, reference record |
| Yelp | No | No | Missing suite number, wrong hours |
| Facebook Page | Yes | Yes | Disconnected phone number |
| Apple Maps | No | No | Never claimed, wrong category |
| Angi | Yes | No | Shows open 24 hours |
A customer checking Yelp on a Saturday sees the business as closed. The Facebook number reaches a disconnected line. Neither error is visible from the Google listing that everyone assumes is the only one that matters.
A website content checklist for a small business almost always covers structure: does every page have a title tag, a call to action, a contact form. What it does not cover is voice, whether the words on the page sound like something a real customer actually said. It also does not cover the fact that the address a customer finds depends on which directory Google happens to show them, not on whichever one the business believes is correct.
Brindlewood Landscaping, invented for this pack, had a homepage unchanged for 14 months, opening with "professional landscaping services for your home," a claim no reader can verify. A recent review described the crew cleaning up every leaf before leaving; the rewritten homepage borrows that line almost exactly, since a reader can check it against the reviews linked on the same page. The Google Business Profile guidelines require a listing's name to reflect its real-world name as used on its storefront, the same standard the Listing Consistency Check applies to every other directory.
That check found Yelp missing a suite number and showing the wrong hours. It also found a Facebook Page phone number disconnected for two years, both invisible from the Google Business Profile record everyone assumes is the only one a customer sees. Pair this with the marketing basics pack for which channels actually send customers to this content, and the sales process pack for what happens once an enquiry actually arrives from it.
What's in the pack
Page Copy
Before-and-after rewrites for the pages the inventory flags as generic, using language pulled from real reviews and enquiries rather than industry boilerplate.
Listing Descriptions
One canonical business record and the specific fix each directory needs, from a missing suite number to a disconnected phone line nobody had noticed.
FAQ From Real Questions
Built from the questions that actually recur in enquiries, including the service the site never had a page for despite it showing up repeatedly.
Content Inventory sheet
Every page's age and whether its copy uses customer language, so a generic page and a missing page both surface in the same view.
Listing Consistency Check sheet
Every directory checked against one canonical record for name, address, phone and hours, with the specific mismatch named rather than assumed correct.
How it works
- 1
Open in River, or download it
Take the blank Word and CSV files with no account, or install the pack in River and hand it your site, your directory listings and your recent reviews.
- 2
Set one canonical record
Usually the most actively maintained listing, typically Google Business Profile, becomes the reference every other directory and every page's contact section gets checked against.
- 3
Pull language from reviews and enquiries
A phrase that shows up more than once in how customers describe the work belongs in the copy word for word, in place of a claim nobody can verify.
- 4
Correct each directory where it disagrees
One at a time, on that directory's own settings, since a listing does not get fixed by the fact that a different one already has the right information.
Frequently asked questions
Is this template free?
Yes. Three documents and two sheets download as Word and CSV files with no signup and no credit card. Edit with AI is the optional path where the agent pulls language from your own reviews and checks your directories. The rest of the library is at the template index.
What format are the downloaded files?
Word documents (.docx) for the Page Copy, Listing Descriptions and FAQ From Real Questions, and CSV (.csv) for the Content Inventory and Listing Consistency Check. They open natively in Word, Pages, Google Docs, Excel, Numbers and Sheets.
How many directories should I actually check?
Every one you can find, not just the ones you remember claiming. Brindlewood's Angi listing had been claimed by a former employee years earlier and showed as open 24 hours, an error nobody would have found without checking a directory nobody thought to look at.
What if I do not have enough reviews to pull language from?
Enquiries work the same way. How a prospective customer describes what they want, in their own words, in an email or a call, is the same source of real language a review is, and most businesses have more of those than reviews.
Which listing should be the canonical record if two disagree?
Whichever one is most actively and directly maintained by the business itself, not whichever is oldest. A listing claimed years ago by an employee who has since left is a poor canonical source even if it was accurate once.
Does fixing Google Business Profile automatically fix the others?
No. Each directory is a separate system with its own login and its own settings. The Facebook listing's disconnected phone number does not get corrected by Google having the right one; it gets corrected inside Facebook's own business settings.
Find the directory listing nobody remembers claiming
Download the blank pack as Word and CSV files, or open it in River and have it check every directory against your canonical business record.
